The Greene County Rams lost a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games in Story City to the Roland-Story Norsemen Tuesday.
The boys game can be considered an upset, as the Norsemen had only two wins on the season and eight losses as they faced the 8-5 Rams.
The Rams scored first and held a 7-0 lead before the Norsemen put up 12 unanswered points. The home team was up 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Norse lead grew to 29-23 at intermission. The Rams were down 45-37 after three quarters. They mounted a come-back and had a chance to tie the game in the last two seconds of the game, but missed free throws nixed that opportunity and the Norse won 62-60.
Trey Hinote led the Rams in scoring with 22 points 18 of which came as 3-point baskets. Lance Hughes had 11 points, Wade Adcock and Joe Towers had eight points each, Carter Morton and Jordan Patterson had five each, and Ben Bravard scored one point. Adcock led in rebounds with seven.
The Rams went to the free throw line eight times and made four points there, while the Norse shot 19 free throws and made 10.
The Ram boys are now 7-4 in the conference and 8-6 overall.
The girls lost their 10th game of the season and their ninth in the conference with their 52-27 loss to #8-rated Norse. The win put the home team at 9-2 in the HOIAC and 15-2 overall.
The game was scoreless for nearly the first five minutes, and the Rams didn’t score until only 18 seconds remained in the first quarter. The score was 6-2 at the buzzer. The score was 17-8 at halftime.
The Norse put up a big third quarter, scoring 22 points while the Rams scored only 8, for a 39-16 score. The Rams were able to score 11 points in the fourth quarter with Norse reserves in the game, but they were still outscored.
Sophomore Izzy Bravard scored seven points to lead the Rams. Laurin Lyons scored six, Ashley Millard scored four, Samantha Hardaway scored three, and Kassie Lamoureux, Regan Lamoureux and Onica Delp scored two each. Delp led in rebounds with nine.
The Rams travel to Alleman Friday night to play the North Polk Comets in a HOIAC Mega Night.
